BY OKUNADE ADEKUNLE
One, Chukwuemeka Akpokpo, a pastor with The Lords Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries Ijesha, Lagos has been killed by unknown gunmen who operated with a commercial motorcycle popularly called “Okada”.
It was gathered that Akpokpo was attacked when he left the Diamond Bank near Apple junction, at Amuwo Odofin local government.
Hallmark learnt that the gunmen who left the scene of the incident after shooting him severally to death carted away N3million which he went to the bank to collect.
One of the church member who identified himself as Madu said the robbery may have an insider connection either from the bank or the Church, adding that the pastor initially notified his Account Officer before leaving the church for the bank.
“He was actually trailed to the bank by the robbers. The Police should interrogate the Account officer of the bank”, said Madu
Another Church member who wants to be anonymous told Hallmark Metro that the incident may have been initiated by those who were eyeing his position as he is the Lagos State Coordinator of the Lord’s Chosen and also in-charge of building.
“He might be killed by some envious people who want to take over his position. Many see him as being too favoured by the General overseer of the Church, Pastor Lazarus Mouka. Many of them were jealous of the Pastor who was trusted by the GO”, said the Church member
“We are still in shock by the incident. When his corpse was brought to the Church, we kept praying from 12.30 to 8PM hoping that God would revive him because, we loved him so much. Pastor was later taken to his home town, near Umuahia, Abia state “, said the Church member
Ability to speak with the Lagos Police Command Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, on the incident was abortive as several calls put to him were not picked as at time of filing this report.
But a police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity hinted that “the police will not conclude that it was an armed robbery attack as they would not rule out assassination. Our findings will be extensive”.
