Obi set to dump ADC over Atiku’s influence – Kachikwu

The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has claimed that Labour Party (LP) flagbearer in the last election, Peter Obi, is already considering leaving the recently formed ADC coalition.

Obi had earlier this month joined other opposition leaders to launch the ADC as a coalition platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. Just two days after the launch, he declared his intention to run for president in 2027 while retaining his LP membership.

However, Kachikwu alleged that Obi has realised the coalition is structured to favour former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Kachikwu said:

“The whole ADC structure is being packaged for the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. I have been warning people about what is happening, and we can now see the reality within the coalition. Someone like Mr Peter Obi understands that this coalition was created for Atiku. From our information, Obi is already looking in other directions, and others with presidential aspirations have also realised this so-called coalition is just a vehicle for Atiku’s ambition.”

Kachikwu vowed that the ADC would not be used to advance Atiku’s agenda, adding that the 2027 polls would not allow what he described as “class exploitation” by the political elite.

He pledged to resist any manipulation, stressing that he will focus on educating Nigerians about their political rights and power.
