McPherson University holds 14th matriculation ceremony, welcomes 896 new students

McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, on Friday, January 30th, 2026, held its 14th Matriculation Ceremony at the Stephen and Hannah Obaro Multipurpose Hall.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Adegbaye Igbasan, who presided over the ceremony, welcomed the 896 new students.
Igbasan assured the students and their parents of the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, integrity and service to society.
According to the vice-chancellor, the matriculants comprised 881 undergraduate students admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE), as well as 15 postgraduate students.
Addressing the fresh students, Igbasan said their admission marked the beginning of a formal academic journey in a faith-based institution committed to academic excellence, integrity, and service.
He warned them against cultism, examination malpractice and other forms of indiscipline, noting that the university maintained zero tolerance for indiscipline and would not condone any act capable of undermining its values.

“By taking the matriculation oath, you are formally becoming members of this great university community.
“McPherson University is a vision-driven institution committed to the highest academic standards, functional education, and the production of leaders equipped for service to society.
“Any form of misconduct, including examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, bullying, sexual immorality, indecent dressing, violence, or disrespect for authority, will not be tolerated. Such acts will attract appropriate sanctions, including expulsion”, Prof. Igbasan warned.
The VC disclosed that students admitted into the Bachelor of Laws and Nursing Science programmes must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 at the end of their first academic session to remain in their respective programmes.
He urged the students to be disciplined, punctual, and responsible, encouraging them to take advantage of academic and extracurricular opportunities while committing their lives to prayer and hard work.
Igbasan also noted that the university had commissioned 16 major projects in the last three and a half years to improve infrastructure, academic facilities, and student support services.
He concluded by congratulating the matriculants and welcoming them to what he described as “the Citadel of Champions”, praying for their success and protection throughout their academic journey.
It would be recalled that the institution, owned by the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, matriculated 984 students during its 13th matriculation ceremony held in February 2025.
