Crystal Palace claimed the UEFA Conference League title on Wednesday night after defeating Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in a tense final in Leipzig.

A decisive 51st minute goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta proved enough to hand Palace their first major European trophy and cap a remarkable debut campaign in continental football.

The victory also marked a memorable farewell for Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who secured another trophy in his final match before departing the club this summer.

Palace produced a disciplined and composed performance throughout the encounter and were widely regarded as the better side over the course of the match.

Mateta’s goal separated the two teams in a closely contested final, with the Eagles defending resolutely to deny the Spanish side a route back into the game.

At the final whistle, jubilant Palace players celebrated on the pitch while thousands of supporters erupted in celebration inside the stadium, marking a historic night for the South London club.

The triumph means Crystal Palace have now won the Conference League in their very first European campaign, a feat that further underlines the club’s remarkable rise under Glasner.

In addition to lifting the trophy, Palace also secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Europa League.
