Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has sympathised with residents of Osogbo, the state capital, and its environs over the destruction caused by a rainstorm on Saturday night in parts of the state.
The governor, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, described the incident as sad, unfortunate and deeply disturbing.
“On behalf of the government and good people of our state, I sincerely sympathise with the victims of the heavy rainstorm caused by the devastating downpour on Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Osogbo and adjoining communities,” the statement read.
Adeleke said he was deeply touched and concerned by the development, assuring that his administration would take necessary steps to address the situation through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA).
“I must say that I feel deeply touched and alarmed by the incident, and my administration will, no doubt, put in place everything morally and officially possible through the Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) with a view to alleviating the losses suffered by victims in Osogbo and other affected communities,” he said.
The governor also directed the Ministry of Works to immediately clear blocked roads and motorways to prevent further accidents.
“I have also directed the Ministry of Works to quickly swing into action by clearing the motorways to prevent further accidents,” he added.
While attributing the increasing incidence of natural disasters to climate change, Adeleke said the negative effects of the phenomenon informed his administration’s policy actions aimed at mitigating environmental challenges.
He urged residents to adopt measures that could reduce the impact of natural disasters, including tree planting, and cautioned against indiscriminate felling of trees.
