2027: GAC ends Jandor, Ambode’s guber ambition, adopts Hamzat as APC consensus candidate in Lagos

The highest advisory body of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagos State, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), has endorsed the state’s Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The development was disclosed on Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, in a post on X.

“FLASH: The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) today unanimously endorsed and adopted the Deputy Governor of Lagos State dr obafemi hamzat to be consensus candidate for the 2027 elections in Lagos State”, he wrote.

According to the post, the endorsement was announced by GAC leader, Tajudeen Olusi, during a meeting at Lagos House, Marina.

Gawat added that members of the council also paid for Hamzat’s nomination form.

“Alhaji Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi spoke on behalf of the GAC, today at the Lagos House Marina. The GAC members also announced that they paid for his nomination form.

“The endorsement signals growing alignment within the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections”, the post added.

The endorsement by GAC cemented Hamzat’s position within the ruling party as political activities gradually build towards the 2027 general elections.

The development comes a day after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu publicly endorsed Hamzat as his preferred successor.at the end of a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where Hamzat formally declared his intention to contest the governorship seat before members of the State Executive Council (SEC) and party leaders.
