Ogun SUBEB commends Abiodun for approving Grade Level 17 for primary school teachers

The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for approving Grade Level 17 for public primary school teachers in the state, describing the decision as historic, progressive and unprecedented.
Speaking with journalists at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Chairman of the board, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, said the approval marked a major milestone in efforts to improve teachers’ welfare and accord the profession the recognition it deserves.
Ifede noted that for many years, educators in the public basic education sector had aspired to a career progression structure that truly reflected their experience, qualifications and invaluable contributions to human capital development.
“By addressing these long-standing concerns, the governor has once again demonstrated responsiveness to the needs of workers and a deep understanding of the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the future of our state,” he said.
He added that the approval further underscored the Abiodun administration’s commitment to education as a critical driver of socio-economic growth and sustainable development.
Also speaking on the development, the Board Secretary, Mr Olubori Akinleye, said the approval of Grade Level 17 had renewed hope, boosted morale and strengthened motivation among public primary school teachers across Ogun State.
Akinleye explained that the decision would enhance productivity, professionalism and renewed dedication to duty, while also helping to attract and retain qualified teaching personnel within the public education system.
He assured teachers and other stakeholders that SUBEB would work closely with relevant ministries, agencies and organised labour to ensure a seamless and transparent implementation of the new grade level in line with established guidelines.
He reiterated the board’s gratitude to Governor Abiodun for what he described as a bold and visionary step, pledging SUBEB’s continued support for policies and initiatives that promote teachers’ welfare and the sustainable development of education in Ogun State.
