The Ogun State Government has commissioned new school infrastructure in parts of the state, reaffirming its commitment to improving learning environments and strengthening the education sector.

As part of the projects, the government constructed and inaugurated two blocks of eight classrooms at the Local Government Commercial Secondary School, Atan, Ota.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu, said the project was delivered under the state’s “Ogun Rehabilitation of Halls and Academic Buildings (OgunREHAB)” initiative, designed to upgrade learning facilities across public schools.

He explained that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun had, through the programme, delivered multiple infrastructure projects, including classroom blocks, renovated halls, perimeter fencing, and upgraded science laboratories across the state.

According to him, the newly commissioned classrooms are fully equipped with electricity and modern writing boards, while additional furniture will be supplied to enhance teaching and learning.

“We assure you of adequate furniture to ensure effective learning. We also appeal to students to make good use of these facilities so government can continue to do more,” Arigbabu said.

He urged stakeholders to support government efforts in improving the education sector, noting that the ongoing interventions are aimed at making schools more conducive for both students and teachers.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Tosin Oloko, also commended the initiative, saying the projects would improve learning conditions and reflect the government’s investment in human capital development.

In a related development, Arigbabu also commissioned additional facilities at Iyewa High School, Ajilete, including a perimeter fence, three blocks of renovated classrooms, toilet facilities, and a borehole for water supply.

The projects were facilitated by the Commander, Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers, Shamsideen Shafau, whom the commissioner praised for supporting government’s education development agenda.

Chairman of Yewa South Local Government Area, Abraham Ogunsola, said the fencing would enhance security within the school environment, while the classrooms and borehole would significantly improve teaching and learning conditions.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to the Commissioner for Education, the Permanent Secretary, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Idowu Daniel, in recognition of their contributions to education development in the state.
