Abia Health Mgt Bureau trains Aba General Hospital’s Eye Centre staff on ethics, others

The Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau on Tuesday, had an onboarding session with the staff of Aba General Hospital’s Eye Center.
During the session, the staff were trained on various skills such as effective communication – building strong patient relationships, effective Reporting – ensuring accuracy and accountability, as well as work ethics and the Hippocratic Oath – upholding professionalism and integrity.
The training, led by its administrator, Dr. (Mrs.) Betty Emeka Obasi, saw eye experts from the bureau share insights on how to run the eye clinic efficiently and stand out in service delivery.

The bureau announced that the Aba General Hospital’s Eye Clinic is now open and fully operational!, while encouraging Abians and other Nigerians to visit to centre for their eye care services.
As part of efforts to drive Gov Alex Otti administration’s healthcare vision centred on infrastructural development, functionality, and strategic partnerships to achieve a healthier population in Abia, the bureau has been embarking on trainings and purchase of eye care equipment for various clinics in the state.
In November, the bureau trained 120 teachers from the state’s three senatorial zones in foundational eye health and proactive vision care, positioning them as critical advocates for child eye health across schools.
Mrs. Obasi who inaugurated the intensive three-day training, had affirmed its mission to safeguard the vision of Abia’s youth, noting that the initiative was part of efforts create a future free of preventable visual impairments in the state.

“As we pursue our commitment to a future free of preventable vision impairment, we have convened 120 dedicated educators from all corners of Abia State, equipping them with practical knowledge in eye health management and techniques for early detection of visual issues among students,” she had said.
This initiative had marked the bureau’s observance of World Sight Day 2024, celebrated on October 10 with the theme, ‘Love Your Eyes Kids,’ a call to action for prioritizing children’s eye health.
With their newly acquired expertise, the teachers could detect early indicators of vision problems, helping ensure that children have a clear path to educational success and overall well-being.
Upon completion of the training, each teacher was presented with a specialized toolkit, including a Snellen chart, measuring tape, occluder, near vision chart, and a comprehensive manual covering the training curriculum.
Leading facilitators who were esteemed Optometrists provided hands-on guidance, ensuring that participants gained confidence and precision in their application of these skills.
Mrs. Obasi had extended profound appreciation to Dr. Otti, whose steadfast support, she said, has been instrumental in empowering teachers with the resources necessary for conducting vision screenings in their respective schools.
