Iwobi, Eze earn spots on 2025 football Black List for community impact

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has been named in the 2025 Football Black List, earning recognition for his contributions to social impact and community development beyond his achievements on the football pitch.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Football Black List via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, where Iwobi was listed in the “Players – Off the Pitch” category.

The 29-year-old Fulham star was recognised alongside Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze and England and Lionesses defender Jess Carter.

Founded in 2008, the Football Black List celebrates Black footballers and stakeholders who use their influence to promote social change, philanthropy, and community development.

Iwobi’s inclusion reflects his growing reputation for humanitarian work, particularly through initiatives aimed at supporting young people. His programmes focus on empowering underserved Black youth through football clinics, mentorship schemes, education workshops, and grassroots competitions, including the P17 Cup.

His efforts to inspire and support young people have also earned him the Baobab Award in Sport, which recognises individuals making a positive impact in sports and society.

Other figures recognised in the 2025 Football Black List include Naomi Bedeau of Oxford United Women and Grenada international, as well as Shakira Waithe of Enfield Town and Barbados.

The Super Eagles celebrated Iwobi’s recognition on their official X handle, congratulating the midfielder for his achievement. “We are proud of you, Alex @alexiwobi,” the team wrote.

The Football Black List, established by Leon Mann and other advocates, has become a respected platform that highlights Black excellence and activism within football, recognising individuals who demonstrate leadership both on and off the field.
