Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State on Wednesday formally inaugurated a 52-member campaign council ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, expressing strong confidence of emerging victorious at the poll.

Addressing party faithful and supporters at the inauguration held at Imole House in Osogbo, the governor said he was optimistic about the outcome, describing the event as the beginning of a renewed political movement toward continuity in office.

“I am feeling the victory and the defeat of our opponents. This team is heading to victory. My spirit confirms that our party, the Accord Party, will be declared winner by wide margins,” Adeleke said amid cheers, singing, and dancing by supporters.

The governor drew parallels with his 2022 electoral journey, noting that the current political momentum mirrors the early stages of that successful campaign.

“This is how we started in 2022. Today marks the march to victory on August 15. I hereby inaugurate this Campaign Council to the service of continuity and delivery of good governance,” he added.

The inauguration formally signals the commencement of Adeleke’s re-election campaign, with the council expected to coordinate strategy, mobilisation, and grassroots outreach across the state.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration, the Director-General of the campaign council, Senator Lere Oyewumi, said the task before the team would be less demanding given what he described as a “sellable candidate.”

He expressed confidence in the campaign’s prospects, noting that the achievements and governance record of Governor Adeleke would speak for him.

“What we did in 2018 and 2022 is different from what we are going to do now because we have moved from being an opposition party to the ruling party. Campaigning as a party in government is different, especially when that government is performing well,” Oyewumi said.

“We are not going to be distracted by those who have nothing to offer. Our candidate is credible, and his performance is evident for all to see. Even if we spend the next one year, we cannot fully catalogue all that the governor has achieved for the people of Osun State,” he added.

The campaign council is chaired by former National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, and includes several prominent political figures in the state.
