Obi, Bala Mohammed hold private talks in Bauchi

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Thursday met behind closed doors with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, in a development likely to heighten political calculations ahead of the next election cycle.
The meeting took place at the Presidential Lounge of the Government House, Bauchi, shortly after Obi’s arrival in the state. As of press time, the agenda of the discussion had not been made public, with both leaders yet to brief journalists.
Insiders, however, hinted that the engagement may not be unconnected with ongoing consultations and realignments within opposition circles, particularly around the African Democratic Congress, where Obi is regarded as a prominent figure in the emerging coalition.
Governor Mohammed, who heads the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, has recently sent mixed political signals. He had, on March 31, suggested that the ADC could be his preferred platform if he were to leave the Peoples Democratic Party.
That position appeared to shift soon after, when he hosted the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, at the Government House on April 1.
The sequence of meetings has intensified speculation over the governor’s next political move, with Thursday’s engagement with Obi further fuelling debate over possible alliances and strategic positioning ahead of 2027.
