Liberian Envoy Seeks Strategic Partnership with Babcock University, Unveils Investment Drive

The Ambassador of Liberia to Nigeria, John Akel Ballout Jr., has expressed a strong desire to establish a lasting partnership with Babcock University, extending beyond traditional diplomatic relations.

Ballout made this known during a courtesy visit to the university’s President/Vice Chancellor, Afolarin Ojewole, where he acknowledged Nigeria’s critical role in restoring peace during Liberia’s civil war.
According to the envoy, Nigeria bore the greatest burden in the peacekeeping efforts, contributing significant resources and recording substantial human casualties in the process.

He also unveiled Liberia’s new economic policy direction, announcing that Nigeria would be the first country to benefit from fresh investment opportunities across key sectors such as oil and gas, mining, agriculture, and tourism.

Ballout further disclosed plans for an upcoming investment forum in Lagos, inviting Nigerian investors and stakeholders to participate as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral economic ties.

In his response, Ojewole welcomed the initiative and reiterated the university’s readiness to build strategic partnerships. He highlighted the long-standing relationship between the Seventh-day Adventist Church and Liberia’s government, noting that it provides a solid foundation for collaboration.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized opportunities in student exchange programmes, joint research, and academic development, adding that the institution aims to position itself as a top destination for international students.

Ojewole also pointed to Babcock University’s American-influenced curriculum and global academic linkages as advantages that make it an ideal partner for Liberian institutions.
The visit signals a renewed push to deepen educational and economic cooperation between Nigeria and Liberia.
