Experts call for ethics, precision in financial data management at Babcock University workshop

In a world increasingly driven by data, experts have emphasized the need for ethical, accurate, and technology-driven management of financial information, highlighting its central role in organizational success.

The call came at a high-level workshop held at Babcock University, themed “Managing Financial Data as a Strategic Organizational Resource: The Role of Data Management Systems in Modern Organizations.” The programme was jointly organised by the university’s Departments of Information and Resource Management and Finance.

Speaking at the event, the Vice President of Financial Administration and University Bursar, Folorunsho Akande, stressed that proper management of financial records is no longer optional but essential to institutional effectiveness.

“Financial records go beyond numbers. They are a reflection of human behaviour, ethics, and integrity,” Akande said. “Accurate and accessible financial data remains the backbone of modern investment decisions. Credibility in data is indispensable in today’s financial analysis landscape.”

Reinforcing the point, Dr. Oladipupo Adekunle Bamiro, representing the President of the Association of Applied Information Management Professionals (AIMP), underscored the ethical responsibilities of information management professionals.

“Information is power, but managing it effectively is wisdom,” Bamiro said, noting that robust information management systems could significantly elevate both institutional performance and the broader Nigerian economy.

The workshop also featured the formal induction of new members into AIMP, coordinated by the Association’s Registrar, Abayomi Olufeyomi Agunloye, during which inductees took the oath of professional responsibility.

The event concluded with a call for continuous professional development, ethical practices, and the adoption of advanced data management systems to help organizations navigate increasingly complex financial environments.

Experts at the workshop agreed that in an era where strategic decisions and organizational survival increasingly hinge on reliable data, institutions that embrace rigorous financial information management will enjoy stronger governance, improved investment outcomes, and enhanced public trust.
