NDIC to host Africa deposit insurers’ annual meeting in Abuja

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) will host the 2026 Annual Meeting and Workshop of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) Africa Regional Committee (ARC) in Abuja from July 20 to 23.
The four-day event, themed “Safeguarding Stability: Public Awareness and Crisis Readiness for a Stronger Future,” is expected to bring together chief executives, directors and senior officials of deposit insurance institutions, financial regulators and other financial safety-net stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.
According to a statement issued by the Head of the NDIC’s Communication and Public Affairs Department, Hawwau Gambo, the meeting will focus on strategies for strengthening public awareness and crisis preparedness within deposit insurance systems in line with the revised IADI Core Principles.
The workshop will examine ways of building and sustaining depositor confidence, enhancing communication with the public, improving coordination among financial safety-net participants, and equipping deposit insurers with practical tools for crisis management and resolution.
Participants are also expected to deliberate on emerging risks confronting the financial sector, including financial technology innovations and cyber threats, with a view to strengthening regional frameworks for effective crisis response.
The programme will feature technical committee meetings, plenary sessions and interactive roundtable discussions on public awareness during normal and crisis periods, crisis preparedness and management, system-wide response operations, as well as simulation exercises designed to assess institutional readiness.
The event will be declared open by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, while the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, is expected to deliver the keynote address.
Other dignitaries expected at the meeting include the Secretary General of the International Association of Deposit Insurers, Eva Hüpkes, and the Chairperson of the IADI Africa Regional Committee, Julia Oyet.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive of the NDIC, Thompson Oludare Sunday, will serve as the chief host of the conference.
The NDIC said the annual meeting would provide an important platform for peer learning, exchange of experiences and collaboration among deposit insurers and financial regulators aimed at enhancing financial stability and strengthening crisis response mechanisms across Africa.
