Battle shifts to Allianz Arena as PSG hold slim edge over Bayern after nine-goal thriller

By Jessica Afuye

Paris Saint-Germain will take a narrow advantage into the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final after edging Bayern Munich 5–4 in a pulsating first-leg encounter at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

In one of the most thrilling matches in recent Champions League history, both sides delivered a relentless attacking display, combining for nine goals in a contest filled with drama, momentum swings, and individual brilliance.

Bayern drew first blood when Harry Kane converted from the penalty spot to hand the visitors an early lead. However, PSG responded with intensity and flair, turning the game on its head before halftime.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia led the charge with a superb brace, while João Neves added another as the hosts surged ahead. Bayern briefly drew level through Michael Olise, but PSG still went into the break with a 3–2 advantage.

The second half saw the French champions tighten their grip on the tie, with Ousmane Dembélé producing a standout performance. The winger scored twice to extend PSG’s lead to 5–2, putting them in a seemingly commanding position.

But Bayern, showing their trademark resilience, mounted a late comeback. Dayot Upamecano pulled one back with a header before Luis Díaz struck late to narrow the deficit to a single goal.

Despite the late pressure, PSG held firm to secure victory, though their defensive lapses leave the tie delicately balanced heading into the return leg.

The result sets up a high-stakes showdown at the Allianz Arena, where Bayern will look to overturn the deficit on home soil, while PSG aim to protect their slender lead and book a place in the final.
