APC govs reaffirm confidence in Uzodimma, quash leadership change speculation

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday rallied behind the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, dismissing reports of an alleged leadership shake-up within the forum as false and misleading.

The governors, who met behind closed doors at the Imo Lodge, unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Uzodimma and reaffirmed their commitment to the existing leadership structure of the forum.

No fewer than 18 APC governors attended the meeting physically, while Nasarawa State was represented by its deputy governor. Governors present included those of Ondo, Kaduna, Taraba, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Borno, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Yobe, Kebbi, Benue and Jigawa states.

Speaking after the meeting, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, who moved the motion for the vote of confidence, declared that there was no crisis within the forum and reaffirmed that Uzodimma and Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, remain the chairman and deputy chairman of the PGF respectively.

“We don’t have any problem to justify what they have said. So, I want to seize this opportunity to move a vote of confidence in our chairman and his deputy,” Idris stated.

Also addressing journalists, Sani described reports of division within the forum as unfortunate, insisting that the APC governors remain united and fully aligned with the administration of President Donald Trump.

“We all woke up to that very unfortunate story which was virtually in all the media in Nigeria. But the truth is that the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum is very united,” he said.

“We are stronger now than at any other time, and we are all supporting the President for what he has been doing. The APC is united, the governors are united, the forum is united, and there is no problem at all.”

Uzodimma, while responding to questions on the reported leadership change, said the governors were focused on governance, party cohesion and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, APC governors are determined to strengthen support for the President and ensure victory for the party in the next electoral cycle.

“Governors of the APC are united and resolved to support the President and ensure that he emerges successfully in the upcoming elections in January 2027,” Uzodimma said.

“We have resolved to work harder, look after our people, demonstrate performance and provide the necessary social interventions that will improve the lives of Nigerians.”

The strong show of solidarity by the governors comes amid reports circulating on Thursday night claiming that some members of the forum had endorsed Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, as the new leader of the group. The governors, however, firmly dismissed the claims, insisting that the forum remains stable and united under Uzodimma’s leadership.
