Ajibade laments unpaid $100,000 reward for Super Falcons

Super Falcons skipper, Rasheedat Ajibade, has criticised the prolonged delay in the payment of the $100,000 reward and other allowances promised to the team after their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph.
In a yet-to-air episode of With Chude, hosted by Chude Jideonwo, the 24-year-old forward revealed that the players have not received any part of the pledges made by the authorities.
“We have not received our money oo. Please, they have not paid. All the promises you heard back and forth, we have not received anything,” she said.
Ajibade explained that while the squad had been told the funds were already allocated, no payments had been made.
“People are begging. We have not received it. When they pay it, you will see. Even our match bonuses and everything… everything is still a work in progress,” she lamented.
Following the Falcons’ record-extending 10th WAFCON victory in Morocco in July 2024, President Bola Tinubu had announced a cash prize of $100,000 for each player, alongside other bonuses, in appreciation of their achievement.
Ajibade also reflected on her struggles in the domestic league, revealing she played for FC Robo Queens for 10 years without earning a salary, calling the experience “a tough moment.”
Sharing her humble beginnings, she recalled growing up in a crowded Mushin compound of nearly 100 people, where she washed toilets and bathrooms to make money.
The forward began her professional journey at FC Robo Queens before moving to Norway’s Avaldsnes IL at 17, and later joining Atlético Madrid Femenino in 2021.
