Adeleke Congratulates New Acting IGP Disu

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has congratulated Mr Olatunji Rilwan Disu on his appointment as Acting Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force by President Bola Tinubu, describing the choice as a strong signal of improved and fair policing in the country.
Mr Disu was decorated as Acting IGP on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke praised Disu’s dedication to duty, noting that his track record in safeguarding lives and property reflects a firm commitment to responsibility and professionalism.
The governor expressed confidence that the new police chief’s respect for the rule of law would guide the Nigeria Police Force in effectively discharging its constitutional mandate.
While commending Disu’s extensive policing experience across the country’s six geopolitical zones, Adeleke urged him to uphold professionalism and shield the Force from political interference and partisanship in order to restore public trust.
“I rejoice with Mr Olatunji Rilwan Disu on his appointment as the Acting Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force by President Bola Tinubu. Mr Disu is an outstanding professional who has devoted most of his life to the security of citizens,” Adeleke said.
“Having Mr Disu as head of the country’s Police is a masterstroke, given his deep knowledge of various parts of Nigeria. Only a few officers have had the privilege of serving in all six zones of the country.
“Mr Disu is widely regarded as disciplined and law-abiding. Testimonials from Nigerians about his service so far indicate that he will make a capable Police chief and help win back the trust of citizens in the Force.”
Governor Adeleke also welcomed President Tinubu’s renewed commitment to the creation of state police, describing the move as a critical step toward strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
“I am more than elated about the resolve of President Bola Tinubu, which was reiterated during a recent meeting with governors, on the establishment of state police.
“With state police, state governments will have the capacity to tackle insecurity before it escalates, preventing local threats from becoming national crises. I commend the President for pursuing this laudable initiative,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that Osun remains safe and secure for residents and businesses. He noted that beyond supporting conventional security agencies, his government has recruited over 1,500 personnel into the state’s Amotekun Corps and provided additional resources to complement the efforts of the Police and other security agencies in protecting the people of Osun.
