Osun ALGON Commends NULGE Resumption, Condemns APC “Impostors” Over False Claims

The Osun State Chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has praised the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for its directive instructing local government workers across the state to resume duty, describing the move as timely and in the best interest of grassroots governance.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Hon. Sarafadeen Abiodun, ALGON Chairman, Hon. Lukman Afolabi, Secretary, and Hon. Agboola, Publicity Secretary, the association said the decision by NULGE State President, Comrade Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, reflects courage, responsibility, and respect for constitutional order – particularly at a time when stability and continuity in local government administration are critical.
However, ALGON condemned the reaction of the self-styled APC ALGON chairman, Mr. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, describing it as “an outburst driven by fear, desperation, and panic.” The association dismissed statements credited to Idowu Abiodun and his associates as “laughable, illogical, and a theatre of falsehoods” intended to intimidate legitimate workers and mislead the public.
ALGON emphasised that local government workers are the lawful custodians of their councils, and no illegal occupant has the right to prevent civil servants from performing their statutory duties. The association also clarified that the February 10 court matter cited by the APC-aligned group concerns a dispute between duly elected PDP chairmen and councillors and APC placeholders, and does not affect career civil servants.
According to ALGON, the tenure of the APC “Yes/No” chairmen and councillors expired on October 22, a fact reportedly acknowledged by their own lawyers during Supreme Court proceedings. Their continued presence in office, the association noted, constitutes a violation of the rule of law. ALGON further highlighted that the Court of Appeal judgment of June 13, 2025, remains valid and enforceable, warning that continued claims to political office could amount to contempt of court and attract legal sanctions.
The association also urged security agencies in Osun State to act within the law to prevent disruptions of the lawful resumption of local government workers, stressing that any breakdown of law and order would be the responsibility of Mr. Idowu Abiodun and his associates.
Reaffirming the peaceful and politically conscious nature of Osun residents, ALGON welcomed workers back to their constitutional duties, commending their dedication and courage.
“Osun people are peaceful, law-abiding, and politically conscious. They will not fold their arms and allow enemies of democracy to plunge the state into avoidable chaos,” the statement concluded.
