WAEC announces schedule for 2026 WASSCE as exams begin April 21

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the timetable for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
According to the schedule released on WAEC’s official X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday, the examination will commence on April 21, 2026, and conclude on June 19, 2026.
The timetable indicates that the first papers will feature practical planning sessions for Food and Nutrition and Home Management, marking the beginning of the examination process for thousands of secondary school students across the region.
WASSCE remains one of the most significant examinations for final-year secondary school students, serving as a major requirement for admission into universities and other tertiary institutions.
The examination will cover core subjects such as English Language and Mathematics, alongside a wide range of other subjects across science, arts, humanities, and technical disciplines.
WAEC conducts the examination across several West African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia, making it one of the region’s largest standardized academic assessments.
Education stakeholders say the timely release of the timetable allows schools, teachers, and candidates to finalize their preparations ahead of the examination period.
