Tinubu pledges stronger FG-state collaboration, commissions key projects in Bayelsa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening collaboration with state governments to accelerate development, as he commissioned major infrastructure projects in Bayelsa State.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House Banquet Hall in Yenagoa, the President commended the state government for what he described as purposeful leadership and effective partnership with the Federal Government.
Tinubu stressed that stronger synergy between federal and subnational governments would unlock greater development outcomes across the country.
“You have done a great job. I have commissioned some very transformative projects, creating opportunities, jobs, and hope for our nation,” the President said.
Earlier, the President inaugurated four major projects executed by the state government, including a 60-megawatt gas turbine power plant, the dualised New Yenagoa City Road, the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, and the Sagbama–Ekeremor Road, which was initiated by the Niger Delta Development Commission.
Tinubu noted that the projects reflected the spirit of cooperation under his administration’s Renewed Hope agenda, adding that infrastructure development remains central to economic growth.
Highlighting the significance of power supply, he said the independent power project would play a key role in driving industrialisation in the state.
“There can be no industrialisation, skill development, and empowerment without power. I assure Nigerians that we will have electricity to power our growth,” he said.
Also speaking, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri praised the Federal Government for creating an enabling policy environment for development initiatives.
He said recent policy interventions by the Tinubu administration had facilitated reforms in critical sectors, particularly in power, enabling the state to deliver on its commitment to reliable electricity through the gas-fired plant.
“For us, it is a cause for thanksgiving and rejoicing,” Diri said, noting that the project marked a significant milestone in the state’s quest for energy independence.
The governor also highlighted the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge as a landmark achievement, describing it as a long-overdue project that addresses decades of neglect in one of the country’s major oil-producing areas.
According to him, the bridge, initially conceived over 60 years ago, had remained uncompleted until the current administration’s intervention.
Diri further commended the Federal Government for supporting other critical infrastructure, including granting waivers for the importation of equipment for the power project and advancing work on the second phase of the Nembe-Brass Road.
He said the growing partnership between both levels of government had significantly boosted development efforts in the state.
The event was attended by top government officials, including the Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, alongside other stakeholders.
The President’s visit comes amid broader national efforts to enhance security and increase crude oil production, with the Federal Government targeting output of over two million barrels per day.
Officials say sustained collaboration between federal and state governments will remain crucial to achieving long-term economic growth and infrastructure development across Nigeria.
