Oyebamiji Calls for Thorough Investigation into Shooting of Osun APC Members

By Sunday Oguntuyi, Osogbo
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State for the August 15 election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has called on the Osun State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting of APC members by suspected political thugs over the weekend.
The state has witnessed heightened political tension in recent weeks, with a series of shootings and killings reported across party lines. Both the APC and the Accord Party have traded accusations over the incidents.
Speaking after visiting two victims of the attack, Taoreed Mustapha and Ayoola Idowu, at separate hospitals in Osogbo on Saturday, Oyebamiji described the attacks and political killings in the state as callous, unfortunate, and unnecessary.
He stressed that elections should not be treated as warfare but as a democratic process through which the people choose their leaders. He condemned the growing wave of political violence and maintained that the APC had no involvement in the crisis.
“I want to appeal to the Osun State Commissioner of Police to work diligently to unravel those behind the shooting and other killings across the state. Enough is enough,” he said.
“My name is Bola Oyebamiji. I am the APC governorship candidate, and I publicly condemn these acts in their entirety. If we begin killing our own people, who then will we govern?”
“I also appeal to the people of Osun State to embrace peace and peaceful coexistence. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to resort to violence because of an election.”
Also speaking, the Director-General of the APC Campaign Council, Mr. Wole Oke, described the violence as alien to the political culture of Osun State, insisting that elections in the state had traditionally been based on choice rather than bloodshed.
“This is very unfortunate and completely alien to our culture. It must stop. We call on the security agencies to investigate these incidents and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” Oke said.
“The primary responsibility of any government, as provided by the Constitution, is to guarantee the security and welfare of its citizens. Unfortunately, under the Accord Party-led administration in Osun State, residents can no longer sleep with both eyes closed. This situation must be brought to an end.”
