Osun poll: Oyebamiji promises rural roads, mechanised farming if elected

By Sunday Oguntuyi, Osogbo

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the August 15 election in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has pledged to connect farming communities to markets through the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads if elected governor.

Oyebamiji also promised to pursue an aggressive mechanised agriculture programme aimed at boosting productivity and improving the socio-economic conditions of agrarian communities across the state.

He made the promises on Friday during the APC governorship campaign in Obokun and Ijebu-Jesa, the two local government areas that make up the Ijesa North Federal Constituency.

According to him, agriculture will play a central role in his administration’s economic development strategy if elected.

Addressing supporters in Ibokun after meeting with traditional rulers in the area, Oyebamiji said his administration would leverage agriculture, which he described as Osun State’s area of comparative advantage, to drive economic growth and job creation.

“I am optimistic that, with your support, I will emerge governor of Osun State on August 15, 2026. One of my major plans is to develop the state’s economy through agriculture, where we have a comparative advantage,” he said.

“Our plan is to encourage mechanised farming in agrarian communities to make farming easier, more attractive and more productive.

“We will not only improve agricultural output, but also connect farming communities to markets by constructing new rural roads and rehabilitating existing ones.”

Speaking later in Ijebu-Jesa, the APC candidate pledged to run an inclusive administration and ensure equitable distribution of development projects across all parts of the state.

He criticised what he described as the current administration’s alleged concentration of development in selected areas and promised a more balanced approach to governance.

“As I stated during our campaign flag-off in Ile-Ife, our administration will not prioritise one local government over another. We are seeking votes from every part of Osun State and, by the grace of God, we will serve all communities fairly and without bias,” he said.

Oyebamiji also expressed concern over the condition of public infrastructure in parts of the state, citing schools, primary healthcare centres and road networks as areas requiring urgent intervention.

He pledged that, if elected, his administration would rehabilitate public schools and health facilities while recruiting qualified teachers and healthcare personnel to improve access to quality education and healthcare services.

During the campaign tour, Oyebamiji paid courtesy visits to the Ogboni of Ibokun, Oba Festus Adegboro; the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, Oba Moses Agunsoye; and other traditional rulers in the area.

The monarchs offered prayers for the success of his governorship ambition and urged him to remain committed to the development of the state.
