Ogun SUBEB strengthens education mgt information system with distribution of tablets to 1,910 public schools

As part of the administration’s ongoing effort to strengthen the Basic Education Management Information System (BEMIS), the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has distributed electronic tablets to 1,910 public primary and junior secondary schools across the state.

The distribution exercise, held at the board’s conference room in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, was conducted under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme, sponsored by the Federal Government and the World Bank, and coordinated by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

In his remarks during the presentation, SUBEB Chairman, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, said the initiative aligns with the state’s Digital Platform for Education Revitalization (DiPER) and the current administration’s “Building Our Future Together” mantra. He urged beneficiary schools to handle the devices with care and ensure they are used effectively to achieve their intended purpose.

Permanent Member IV, Hon. Akeem Balogun, encouraged headteachers to involve their staff in implementing the initiative, stressing that the tablets should translate into improved performance across schools.

In his welcome address, Board Secretary, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, said the distribution marks a shift into a digital era for the education sector, noting that teachers would now have better tools to enhance their work and facilitate efficient data collection.

Mr. Ali Muhammad, Education Secretary of Abeokuta South Local Government Education Authority and Chairman of the conference, underscored the importance of the tablets and urged headteachers to maximize their use.

The Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Adewale Olabode, advised beneficiaries to be meticulous in their data input.

Responding on behalf of the headteachers and the chairman of the Abeokuta South Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Mrs. Oluwakemi Sodeke, expressed appreciation to the state government and partners for the initiative, pledging that the tablets would be used judiciously.
