May Day: Factional Osun LG Workers Back Oyebamiji

Sunday Oguntuyi
A faction of local government workers in Osun State, operating under the aegis of the Association of Concerned Local Government Workers, has declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15, 2026 election.
The group made its position known during the May Day celebration, where its coordinator, Comrade Tirimisiyu Adedayo Adekunle, described Oyebamiji as a credible and capable leader deserving of workers’ support.
“We therefore direct all our members to give him all the necessary support to ensure his victory at the poll,” Adekunle said.
The association also used the occasion to call for an end to casualisation in government establishments, describing the practice as exploitative and demoralising to skilled professionals.
Adekunle stressed the importance of safe working environments, respect for labour unions, and increased investment in workers’ training to boost productivity.
“We are now partners in delivering social services, influencing electoral choices, and driving development for citizens. Government must listen more and respond swiftly to workers’ demands, as the era of treating workers as mere servants is over,” he added.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Abiodun Idowu, commended local government workers for their resilience, patience, and dedication, noting that their efforts remain vital to grassroots governance.
Idowu assured workers that their welfare remains a priority, pledging prompt payment of salaries and entitlements, improved working conditions, and sustained capacity building to enhance service delivery across local governments in the state.
