Iyabo Obasanjo congratulates Adeola, suspends Ogun governorship bid

Former Ogun State governorship aspirant, Iyabo Obasanjo, has congratulated Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) following his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Obasanjo also announced the suspension of her gubernatorial ambition, bringing an end to her statewide consultations.

In a statement issued on Monday by her media team and titled “Announcement of Stoppage of Consultations towards Gubernatorial Race,” she said the decision followed the outcome of the Ogun APC caucus meeting held on April 13, 2026, where Adeola was endorsed as the party’s flag bearer.

“I congratulate him and wish him every success,” she said.

“I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process. Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.”

Obasanjo, who had in recent months met with Bola Tinubu and consulted widely with party stakeholders, local government executives, women groups and traditional institutions across the state, expressed appreciation to her supporters for their loyalty.

“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope,” she added.

Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West in the Senate, emerged as the APC consensus candidate at the caucus meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta on Monday.
