“God has already chosen Nigeria’s next President,” Says Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has declared that Nigeria’s next president ahead of the 2027 general elections has already been determined by divine will.

Speaking during a workers’ meeting at the church’s Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday, Adeboye said the outcome of the forthcoming election ultimately rests with God, stressing that human efforts alone cannot decide who emerges as leader.

According to him, “The next president has already been decided by God who owns the universe. It is not something we can determine by human effort alone. The will of God will be done.”

The cleric urged Nigerians not to be overwhelmed by political uncertainties, maintaining that God remains sovereign over the nation’s affairs. While encouraging civic participation, he emphasised that faith and prayer should remain central as political activities gather momentum.

“I never said we should not be involved in politics, but we must understand that God has the final say in the affairs of men,” he added.

Adeboye called on citizens to remain calm, prayerful and peaceful in the lead-up to the elections, noting that trust in God provides reassurance amid national challenges.

“We should do our part, but we should also keep on praying and trust God. That is what is satisfying to me,” he said.

The respected cleric also addressed remarks by activist Omoyele Sowore, who had described him alongside David Oyedepo and William Kumuyi as “fathers of Christians in Nigeria.”

Adeboye rejected the characterisation, clarifying that he does not see himself as a national Christian leader. He explained that such a role rests with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), whose president serves as the recognised representative of Christians across the country.

“I don’t want to be father of all Christians in Nigeria. I’m satisfied with being the father of the Redeemed Christian Church of God,” he said, affirming that denominational leadership was sufficient responsibility.

Responding to claims circulating on social media that the RCCG is aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adeboye dismissed the allegation, insisting that the church remains non-partisan while continuing to speak on national issues, including economic hardship affecting Nigerians.

He further stated that while political leaders are free to attend church services, they would not be permitted to use the altar for campaign purposes.

Adeboye also noted that he would be willing to participate in peaceful protests if called upon by CAN, stressing that such actions would be guided by principle rather than political affiliation.

“I have protested before during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan,” he recalled.
