Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced fresh appointments into two of the most strategic offices in the Rivers State Government, naming a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chief of Staff in what observers describe as a significant political recalibration.

The announcement, made public on Thursday, February 26, 2026, confirmed the appointment of Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as Secretary to the State Government and Barrister Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff.

The appointments were conveyed in a Special Government Announcement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, and made available to journalists in Port Harcourt.

According to the statement, both appointments take immediate effect, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.

“The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff,” the statement read.

“Both appointments are with immediate effect. The new appointees will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, February 26, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.”

Wokoma replaces Benibo Anabraba as SSG, while Ewule takes over from Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff.

The shake-up comes amid months of intense political maneuvering and high-level mediation following the crisis that strained relations between Fubara and his former political ally, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Ehie’s role had drawn considerable public attention in recent months, particularly after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the Rivers political impasse. Speculation had swirled over his exact standing within the administration, with sources suggesting he continued to wield influence behind the scenes during the reconciliation process.

While the government has not explicitly linked the new appointments to the recent rapprochement between Fubara and Wike, political watchers believe the changes reflect the outcome of the reconciliation and a broader effort to stabilize governance in the oil-rich state.
