Bayern run riot, Atlético crush Spurs as Osimhen inspired Galatasaray edge Liverpool in the UCL clash

The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg fixtures delivered a series of dramatic results across Europe, with Bayern Munich and Atlético Madrid producing dominant performances, while Liverpool suffered a narrow defeat to Galatasaray.
Bayern Munich dismantled Atalanta with a commanding 6–1 victory at the Gewiss Stadium, virtually sealing their place in the quarter-finals after a ruthless display away from home. Michael Olise was the standout performer, scoring a brilliant brace and orchestrating Bayern’s relentless attacking play. Stanislaw, Serge Gnabry, Jackson and Jamal Musiala also found the back of the net in a devastating performance that overwhelmed the Italian side. Mario Pašalić’s stoppage-time goal proved little more than a consolation on a night the German giants completely outclassed their hosts and sent a strong warning to the rest of Europe.
Atlético Madrid also produced a stunning attacking display, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 5–2 at the Riyadh Metropolitan Stadium to take firm control of their Round of 16 tie. Diego Simeone’s side effectively settled the contest within the opening 22 minutes as Julián Álvarez scored twice and provided an assist during a blistering start that left Tottenham trailing 4–0 and visibly stunned. Although Pedro Porro and Dominic Solanke pulled back late goals, Tottenham’s defensive struggles and a flurry of yellow cards reflected a frustrating evening that leaves their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.
At St James’ Park, Barcelona rescued a dramatic 1–1 draw against Newcastle United in the closing moments of their first-leg clash. Harvey Barnes looked to have secured a vital victory for the Magpies with an 86th-minute strike, sending the home crowd into celebration. However, deep into stoppage time, a foul on Dani Olmo handed Barcelona a lifeline from the penalty spot. Youngster Lamine Yamal kept his composure to convert the penalty and deny Newcastle a crucial advantage ahead of the second leg.
Meanwhile, Turkish champions Galatasaray secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Liverpool at RAMS Park. Mario Lemina’s seventh-minute header, with an assist from Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, proved decisive in a match where Liverpool controlled much of the possession but struggled to break down a disciplined Galatasaray defence.
The Reds created several chances, with Florian Wirtz among those going close, but lacked the clinical finishing needed to find an equaliser. Liverpool will now return to Anfield needing to overturn the deficit after a frustrating night in Istanbul.
The first-leg matches have produced several eye-catching results across Europe, setting the stage for decisive second-leg encounters in the coming days as teams battle for a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
