2027: Asanike Commends GMT for Adopting Tinubu for Second Term in Ibadan

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Prince Kola Asatola Asanike, has described the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term by a pro-Tinubu group within the party, the Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), as timely and encouraging.

Asanike made the remark while speaking with journalists in Ibadan at the inauguration of the Oyo State executive of GMT by the group’s National Coordinator, Hon. Bisi Yusuf.

The event drew grassroots politicians, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders from across the political zones of the state, many of whom expressed support for the President’s leadership.

Describing the gathering as “excellent,” Asanike commended the Oyo State Director-General of GMT, Alhaja Aminatu Opeyemi Opason, for what he called an impressive mobilisation.

“What Alhaja Opason has done with today’s inauguration is beyond simple description. If she had anticipated this turnout, she might have chosen the main bowl of Liberty Stadium or Adamasingba. The crowd here is beyond imagination,” he said.

He added that the turnout signalled strong grassroots support for the APC ahead of the 2027 general election, noting that many prominent political figures who could not attend sent representatives.

The adoption of President Tinubu for a second term was anchored by Hon. Bisi Yusuf, who, after outlining what he described as the administration’s achievements, asked the audience if they supported a second term for the President. The crowd responded affirmatively with chants and songs in support of Tinubu.

In her address, Alhaja Opason thanked APC members and supporters for the large turnout and expressed confidence that President Tinubu would win re-election in 2027.

While inaugurating the state and local government executives of the group, Yusuf urged members to remain committed to the President’s second-term aspiration, describing it as crucial to sustaining ongoing reforms.

“I can assure you that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is already laying an enduring template for national growth and development through various socio-economic reforms,” he said.

Opason also appreciated the attendees, including traditional rulers and political leaders, for their presence and support. She said the group was committed to mobilising support for Tinubu across all parts of the state and collaborating with GMT structures nationwide.

She emphasised that the Oyo State chapter of GMT would rely on voluntary support and commitment rather than financial inducement, urging members to remain united in purpose.

The event, which lasted about four hours, was attended by several monarchs, including HRH Oba Mudasiru, the Oniwo Ate of Iwo Ate, and the Oloke of Moro, among other political figures. It ended with musical performances by popular artiste Horla Blinqz.
