[VIDEO] Students narrowly escape as four-storey school collapses in Lagos

A terrifying incident in Lagos on Monday, March 9, 2026, saw students narrowly escape death when a four-storey building housing Yemco Nursery, Primary and Comprehensive College collapsed in Aguda, Ogba.

The building, located at 11 Adudatu Street behind County Hospital, gave way around 11 a.m., but thanks to a timely evacuation, no fatalities were reported.

Eyewitnesses said residents spotted cracks forming on the school walls shortly before the collapse and quickly raised the alarm, prompting teachers to move students to safety within minutes.

A video circulating on social media, shared by Naija Busybody Blog, shows the tense evacuation, with students and staff rushing out seconds before the building caved in. Several students, however, sustained injuries in the panic and stampede that followed and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Femi Aderoju, a resident, recounted the critical moments: “A fashion designer with a shop nearby noticed a crack in the wall and raised the alarm. We all ran to ensure the teachers evacuated the students immediately. The whole process took about five to seven minutes.”

The incident has raised concerns about building safety standards in the area, with many calling for stricter monitoring to prevent similar disasters.
