UNICEF organises Sallah funfair for 200 orphans, vulnerable kids in Kaduna

The UN International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), on Sunday, organised a funfair for 200 orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in Kaduna to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the children were taken round the newsroom, editing room and studio of the NTA network centre in Kaduna to educate them on TV production.
The children were later educated on HIV and AIDS by Malam Lawal Abubakar of the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, after which they ate, danced and received Sallah gifts before they were taken to the Polo Club to watch a polo game.
The UNICEF Communication Officer in Kaduna, Malam Rabiu Musa, said shortly after the events that the essence was to make the children have a sense of belonging, particularly during festive seasons.
Musa said the children are pupils of Local Education Authority Primary School Mararaban Jos, near Kaduna.
He said that UNICEF, in partnership with Access Bank and FIFTHCHUKKER, had been supporting OVC in Kaduna State over the years, particularly those orphaned by the HIV and AIDS scourge.
“This particular school has a population of 1, 850 out of which 500 are orphans and often not properly cared for.”
