Tinubu nominates Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, announced on Thursday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, is aimed at deepening ongoing reforms in the electricity sector and improving investment inflows, grid stability, and service delivery.
The Presidency confirmed that the nomination has been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation.
Tegbe, from Oyo State, is a development economist and fiscal policy expert with more than three decades of experience in both public service and private sector consulting.
He previously worked as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led projects on governance reforms, fiscal policy restructuring, and institutional strengthening across multiple African countries.
He currently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees bilateral cooperation frameworks between Nigeria and China.
According to the Presidency, Tegbe also brings relevant experience in the power sector, having engaged with institutions such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company on regulatory and market development reforms.
“The President expects the Minister-Designate, upon confirmation, to bring his extensive expertise to bear to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector,” the statement said.
Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions.
