'Rescue us from deadly erosion,' Edda people of Ebonyi beg Tinubu

The people of Edda Local Government Area in Ebonyi State have called on the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to come to their rescue by tackling a deadly erosion site at the 24 Corners Ugwuoba Nguzu, along the Oso-Owutu-Nguzu Edda Federal road.

The call was made by stakeholders of Edda East State Constituency at their 2024  end of year parley hosted at Owutu Edda by a former Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr. Abia Onyike.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the stakeholders appealed to the Federal Government to come to the aid of the people of Edda by using the current dry season to work on the erosion site which they said, has almost cut off the communities living along the Edda East State Constituency.

“There are fears that the road  which has been threatened by a severe erosion menace for the past two years may be cut into two if something is not done urgently to solve the problem”, they said.

Meanwhile, the people also commended the Chairman of Edda Local Government, Mr. Chima Ekumankama for his commitment to the security of the council area and for taking steps to restore peace and tranquility to affected communities after the recent crises which resulted from the Eke Offia cultural festival in parts of Etiti Autonomous Community, even as they expressed optimism that the measures adopted would prevent a repeat of communal disturbances in the area.

The Communique which was signed by the Convener of the parley, Barr. Agwu Okporie also praised efforts of the State Chairman of APC, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha for his commitment to the development and advancement of Edda clan as a whole.

The stakeholders also commended the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for the construction of new roads and provision of educational infrastructure in Edda.

The stakeholders expressed the willingness of Edda people to support Gov. Nwifuru  for a second term in office to enable him consolidate his development strides in the state.
