Remodelled Osogbo Stadium to have 15,000 seating capacity – Adeleke

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has commended the pace and quality of the ongoing remodelling of the Osogbo Stadium, announcing that its seating capacity will increase from 4,000 to 15,000 upon completion.
Speaking after an early morning project review session, which began last week, the governor said the expanded capacity would position the state to attract major sporting events and boost sports development.
“Upon completion, Osun will be qualified to host both local and international events. Sports development will take a new turn, and our young population will have a strong platform to develop their talents,” Adeleke said.
He expressed satisfaction with the involvement of foreign technical partners working alongside local contractors to ensure the upgraded facility meets international standards, including those required by FIFA certification.
“In remodelling the stadium, we must meet global standards. I am pleased with the collaboration between local and international experts to ensure compliance with FIFA and other relevant requirements. This is the right step towards integrating Osun into the mainstream of sports development in Nigeria,” he added.
The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s sports sector. He noted that efforts are ongoing to operationalise the Osun Sports Trust Fund, with work progressing to meet legal requirements and develop an appropriate policy framework.
“As a sports-loving governor, I am determined to ensure the Osun Sports Trust Fund becomes fully operational. We are also working to revitalise the Osun State Sports Commission and put in place structures to address the challenges facing the sector,” he said.
Adeleke added that his vision is to build a sports sector in Osun with modern facilities, a well-trained workforce, and expanded opportunities for athletes.
He further commended the contractor handling the project for the quality of work delivered so far, as well as the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, for his commitment to the timely completion of the project.
