Police parade three suspects over murder of ex-OGTV staff, security guard in Ogun

By Popoola Jamiu, Abeokuta

The Ogun State Police Command has paraded three suspects over the alleged murder of a former staff member of the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGTV), Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The suspects were presented to journalists on Friday at the Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, where the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, gave an update on the progress of the investigation.

Ojajuni said the incident was reported at the Owode-Egba Police Station in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area on June 21, 2026, after neighbours observed suspicious circumstances at the residence of the deceased.

According to the police commissioner, detectives recovered a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the scene of the crime. He said the note was subjected to forensic examination, which generated crucial leads that assisted investigators in identifying and tracking down the suspects.

Ojajuni identified the principal suspect as 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, who was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.

He said further investigations led to the arrest of two other suspects: 27-year-old Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, a security guard, and 36-year-old Sobu Obafunsho, a bricklayer.

The commissioner alleged that the three suspects conspired to murder the two victims.

According to him, the principal suspect made a confessional statement during interrogation, claiming he recruited the other two suspects to carry out the attack.

Ojajuni said the suspect allegedly told investigators that he planned the attack because of grievances he harboured against Madam Oyesiku while working as a security guard in her employment.

“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to teach her a lesson,” the commissioner said.

The police commissioner further disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated the attack occurred on June 20, 2026.

He alleged that the suspects first overpowered the deceased’s security guard and used him to gain access to the residence before attacking Madam Oyesiku. The security guard was also allegedly killed during the operation.

Ojajuni said the suspects reportedly fled the scene in the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV, which was later recovered in the Onikolobo area of Abeokuta.

He added that detectives subsequently searched locations linked to the suspects and recovered several items believed to be connected with the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, a black pen and other exhibits.

While highlighting the progress made in the investigation, the police commissioner stressed that the suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

He assured that the command would conduct a thorough investigation and ensure diligent prosecution of all those found culpable.

“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” Ojajuni said.
