Peter Obi donates ₦30m to Paul University, urges students to take studies seriously

Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has donated ₦30 million to Paul University, Awka, to support the institution’s growth and development.

Obi made the donation during a visit to the university on Saturday after stopping earlier at Ehime Mbano General Hospital in Imo State.

In a statement following the visit, the former governor said he had supported the university for over a decade and expressed satisfaction with the steady progress recorded by the institution over the years.

According to him, each visit to the university has revealed noticeable improvements in infrastructure and learning conditions.

“I have supported this university for over a decade now and I remain encouraged by the steady and visible progress recorded in the institution, as each visit reveals meaningful improvements in infrastructure and learning conditions,” Obi said.

He noted that the progress at the university reinforces the importance of sustained investment in education as a key driver of national development.

During an interaction with students, Obi urged them to take their studies seriously, stressing that education remains the most reliable pathway to personal development and a better future.

“I urged the students to take their studies seriously, reminding them that education remains the most reliable pathway to personal growth and a better future,” he said.

The former presidential candidate also engaged with youth corps members on campus, joining them in a game of football, which he described as a reminder of the energy and potential of Nigeria’s young people.

Obi commended the management of Paul University for what he described as the prudent use of resources and their commitment to maintaining high standards in the institution.

He also assured the university authorities of his continued support toward improving education and contributing to national development.

According to him, investments in education remain critical to building a better country.

“I commend the university’s management for their prudent use of resources and dedication to excellence, and I assure them of my continued support towards the overall goal of making a new Nigeria possible,” Obi added.
