Oyo: Heavy downpour ushers in Makinde for second term

Olusesan Laoye

There was heavy down pour today, Monday, as Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and the deputy governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal took oath of office to serve the people of the state for another four years.

The rain which started just as Makinde was taking his oath of office, did not, however, disrupt the swearing in ceremony which took place at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, popularly known as the Liberty Stadium.

Though some people scampered to take shelter at the main bowl of the stadium, many remained in the rain to watch the governor take his oath of office.

Another notable sight at the venue was the presence of many security agents, including the police, the military and civil defense operatives stationed all over the place.

The security operatives were stationed in strategic parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, through the period that the ceremony lasted.

Some of the areas where the presence of heavy security were noticed include Sango, Roundabout, Mokola and Dugbe as well as the Ring Road and Liberty road.

Delivering his speech, Makinde promised to continue where he stopped, noting that he would not take the people of the State for granted.

He said the welfare of the people especially the downtrodden would continue to be his priority, just as he had done in his first term of four years.
