Osun NUP disassociates from self-styled retired public servants’ group, urges govt to ignore it

The Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has distanced itself from a splinter group known as the 2011/2012 Retired Public Servants Association (RPSA), declaring that the body is not recognised under the union’s constitution.

In a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman, Alhaji Ismaila Odefisayo, and the Secretary, Comrade Dele Aina, in Osogbo on Thursday, the union urged the state government to disregard any dealings with the association.

The NUP described itself as a structured and vibrant union that cannot be reduced to an association, stressing that no parallel body is permitted within its framework. It stated that the so-called RPSA is unknown to its constitution and warned that those parading themselves under the platform lack credible standing.

According to the union, it only recognises the Forum of 2011/2012 Pensioners as a legitimate platform within its structure. It cautioned the state government against engaging with what it described as “unauthorised elements.”

The union further directed that all correspondence relating to pension matters in the state should be addressed strictly to its state office located in the Kolabalogun area, Old Ikirun Road, Osogbo. It warned that anyone dealing with the said association does so at their own risk, as the group is not registered or affiliated with the NUP.

The Osun NUP also appealed to the state government not to entertain requests from the association, alleging that the group does not represent the interests of pensioners in the state.

Additionally, the union dissociated itself from a recent protest reportedly staged by members of the association, insisting that Governor Ademola Adeleke deserves commendation rather than protest for his administration’s efforts toward improving the welfare of pensioners in Osun State.
