Ogun affirms commitment to strengthening entrepreneurship in Schools

The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to provide the necessary agricultural and entrepreneurial support to schools to strengthen practical learning and prepare students for self-reliance after graduation.

The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, disclosed this when members of the Steering Committee of the Student Entrepreneurship Activities Hub (SEA Hub) paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, to discuss strategies for deepening skills-oriented learning among students.

Arigbabu recalled that the ministry’s 2024 decision to make Agriculture and Woodwork compulsory subjects for all students was part of measures aimed at promoting skills acquisition and encouraging entrepreneurship among learners.

He explained that basic knowledge required for self-reliance had also been integrated into the Junior Secondary School curriculum, including lessons on measurement, estimation and calculations to support students’ vocational interests later in life.

“We, as a government, will continue to do our best to guide, support and monitor our learners and schools in order to achieve the policy on entrepreneurship activities in schools,” Arigbabu said.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, commended the government for reviving vocational studies in schools, expressing optimism that with sustained support from the commissioner, Ogun State would perform strongly in entrepreneurship competitions.

Earlier, the SEA Hub Team Lead in Ogun State, Prince Michael Adesanya, acknowledged the ongoing reforms in the state’s education sector and appealed for the introduction of weekly entrepreneurship activities in schools.

He said the initiative would help Ogun State regain its leading position in entrepreneurship competitions, which it recently lost to Lagos State.
