Obasa may emerge as Lagos Speaker

Honourable Mudaishiru Obasa, representing Agege constituency 1, may emerged as the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of Honourable Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, representing Lagos Island constituency who is the choice of the party leadership.

Obasa who is enjoying strong support from the out gone Speaker, Rt Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji and out gone Deputy Speaker, Hon. Hassan Kolawole Taiwo, has already had the nod of former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

Investigation revealed that Ikuforiji, Taiwo and a strong loyalist of Tinubu in the Assembly, Honourable Adebayo Sikiru Osinowo, who is representing Kosofe constituency, had meeting with Tinubu last Wednesday’s midnight alongside Ambode where they sealed the speakership deal for Obasa who was also at the midnight meeting at Bourdillion.

It was revealed further that although Tinubu never accepted the choice of Obasa because of his preferential interest in Eshinloye who he wanted to use to serve as rallying point for Lagos Island politicians in Ambode’s government.

One of the Honourable members of the House, who spoke with Hallmark in anonymity, said ” we have to stand our ground on this issue now or else we will be a House without stake in this new government and we have strong believe in Obasa who has been with us for years in the House.”

He hinted Hallmark that although Eshinlokun would not be jettisoned in the scheme of things in the House as he would be elected the Deputy Speaker, revealing further that there is an agreement among Obasa, members of the House and Ikuforiji and Taiwo that should in case Obasa failed in his expectations or run the House as his personal body, he would be replaced with Hon Rotimi Abiru, who is representing Somolu constituency.

Honourable Mudashiru Obasa is a fourth term legislator and the House Committee Chairman of Public Accounts, a committee saddled with the responsibility of checking government procurement and other government parastatals that deal with spending of funds.
