My life became a lot better after Mohbad’s death — Singer’s father, Aloba

Omowunmi, the widow of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has accused her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, of delaying a DNA test to confirm the paternity of her son, Liam.

The case began after Joseph Aloba requested a DNA test to prove that Liam is Mohbad’s biological son. In July 2024, a Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, ordered both sides to agree on a hospital for the test, but no decision has been made.

Omowunmi’s lawyer, Salawu Akingbolu Chambers, stated in a letter dated January 9, 2025, that Aloba ignored their suggestions of using The Eko Hospital and Reddington Hospital after rejecting her first choice, Lagoon Hospitals. Omowunmi also refused Aloba’s suggestion of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan.

She accused Aloba of delaying the process and threatened to do the DNA test on her own. Her lawyers wrote:

“If your client continues to delay, we will conduct the test ourselves and share the results publicly.”

Omowunmi also criticized Aloba for calling her son a “bastard” on social media, which she described as hurtful and unacceptable.

In response, Aloba’s former lawyers, Hillceetee Partners, denied the claims. They said their lawyer, Mr. Taiwo Odumosu, never accused Omowunmi of avoiding the test. Instead, they blamed delays on hospitals not responding on time.

Their letter, dated January 11, 2025, stated:

“Mr. Odumosu never said your client wasn’t ready for the DNA test. He only mentioned that hospitals had not confirmed their availability.”
