JUST IN: Nigeria beat Algeria 2-0 to reach AFCON semis

Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Saturday secured a place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after a convincing 2 – 0 victory over Algeria.

The Eagles delivered an assured performance to see off the North African side, with second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams proving decisive in the quarter-final encounter.

Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, reacting quickest to a defensive error to slot home after Nigeria’s sustained pressure early in the second half. The goal shifted the momentum firmly in Nigeria’s favour, as Algeria struggled to find rhythm against a well-drilled Eagles side.

Ten minutes later, Akor Adams doubled Nigeria’s lead, finishing confidently in the 57th minute to all but extinguish Algeria’s hopes of a comeback. Nigeria remained disciplined at the back, restricting their opponents to long-range efforts and preserving a comfortable clean sheet.

The result sends Nigeria into a blockbuster semi-final clash against tournament hosts Morocco, a fixture expected to test the Super Eagles’ title ambitions.

With confidence high and momentum building, Nigeria will now turn their attention to reaching the final as they continue their pursuit of a continental crown.
