The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule has appealed to the Federal Government to pay attention to the environmental condition of Police Barracks in the state.
Adebule made the call during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise at Iru-Victoria Island LCDA, where she noted that over the years the State Government had not been comfortable with the condition of police barracks in the state.
According to her, “As you can see, we are inside Victoria Island Police Station, the environment of the barrack is in a deplorable condition, not suitable for living, something urgent must be done to avoid epidemic.
“I want to implore the Federal Government to please pay urgent attention to the barracks within the state, we are canvassing and advocating for a cleaner Lagos, those living in the barracks are part of us, they are our citizens, they must see our vision for a cleaner and safer Lagos, and must key-in into it,” she said.
She further called on Lagosians to intensify their efforts at cleaning their immediate environment and make this part of their daily activities, stressing that our environment says a lot about the kind of person we are.
Adebule pointed out that with regular influx of people into the state, environmental sanitation must always be done regularly in order to realise the State government target of a cleaner and safer environment for the people and also to avoid epidemic.
She said that the State Government would not relent on its efforts to ensure a flood -free State, while also urging Lagos residents to shun the habit of dumping waste into drainages.
Adebule also warned Lagosians who are in the habit of patronising cart pushers to desist from such act as whatever refuse so collected are dumped in drainages which often cause flooding.
She made passionate appeal to all residents to cooperate with and support the present administration in its effort of attaining a cleaner, healthier and safer environment.
