Adeleke Reduces Osun’s Domestic Debt from N148bn to N83.32bn – Sen Oyewumi

By Sunday Oguntuyi, Osogbo
The Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council (ICC), Senator Kamorudeen Oyewumi, has said that the administration of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has significantly reduced the state’s domestic debt profile from N148 billion in December 2022 to N83.32 billion in the first quarter of 2025.
Oyewumi, who represents Osun West Senatorial District, stated this on Saturday during the opening of the Media Centre established to coordinate and disseminate the activities of the Imole Campaign Council under the supervision of the Media and Publicity Committee headed by Representative Bamidele Salam.
According to him, the Adeleke administration also reduced the state’s external debt from $91.78 million in 2022 to $75.14 million in 2025, representing reductions of 43.84 per cent and 18.13 per cent respectively.
The senator blamed the immediate past administration of former governor Adegboyega Oyetola for the state’s financial challenges, noting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, served as Commissioner for Finance during the period.
He further stated that the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR), which stood at N24.47 billion in 2022, had risen to N58.7 billion in 2025, representing a 139.89 per cent increase.
According to Oyewumi, the growth in revenue reflects improved financial management and reforms introduced by the current administration.
He added that the government had harmonised and digitalised revenue collection processes to streamline tax administration, reduce human interference and block leakages.
“Let me reiterate clearly that the Imole Campaign Council will not be distracted by mundane, trivial or negative politics which the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted in the course of this campaign,” he said.
“As an incumbent government which has clearly justified the mandate of the people, we are focused on seeking renewed support from the people of Osun State for the consolidation of the unprecedented gains of good governance which Governor Ademola Adeleke has brought to our dear state.”
Oyewumi also disclosed that the administration had cleared 18 months out of the 30 months of half-salary liabilities inherited from the previous APC administration.
He added that the government had fully paid the 28-month contributory pension arrears owed to retirees by previous APC administrations in the state.
The lawmaker noted that the improved financial health of the state had translated into infrastructure development, human capital advancement and better governance outcomes over the last three and a half years.
He said the Adeleke administration recorded several “firsts” in the history of Osun State, including the construction of the first flyover in Ile-Ife.
According to him, the project was conceived not only as an infrastructural development but also as an economic initiative aimed at improving mobility, commerce, urban development and the prestige of the ancient Yoruba city.
Oyewumi also highlighted the construction of major dual carriageways in Ilesa, Ila-Orangun, Ede and Iwo, as well as over 300 kilometres of urban and rural roads across local government areas in the state.
“Our visionary governor is the first to construct two major flyovers in Osogbo and another one in Ile-Ife to modernise our cities and improve transportation interconnectivity,” he said.
He further noted that the implementation of the new national minimum wage in Osun State was achieved without any industrial action, describing it as another milestone of the current administration.
