Abia to float massive Medical City

Abia State Government has expressed its determination to commence work on the proposed Abia Medical City project, designed to reverse medical tourism to the state and Nigeria.
It is expected that when the project is fully realized, it would make Abia a destination point for all medical cases within Nigeria and Sub- Saharan Africa.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, described the Medical City project as a signature project of the state.
According to the Commissioner, the project would direct tourism to the state in terms of medical services.
“We want a situation whereby rather than going outside the country to seek medical attention, Abia citizens , Nigerians and indeed Africans would want to come to Abia state on medical tourism once that project is completed,” Prince Kanu stated.
“There is a whole lot of attention in the health sector in Abia state because governance is about the people; and, as they say, health is wealth.”
