The Ukwa-la-Ngwa Aba Union, a socio-cultural organisation comprising nine local government areas in Abia State, has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Alex Otti and adopted him as its sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The group said its decision was based on what it described as the governor’s visible achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, civil service reform, and the restoration of public confidence in governance in Abia State.
The resolution was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its general meeting held in Aba.
In the communiqué, the union also pledged to mobilise support across the nine local government areas of Ukwa-la-Ngwa land to ensure the re-election of the governor and the Labour Party in 2027.
The document was signed by the Leader of Ukwa-la-Ngwa Nation and former Attorney General of Abia State, Chief Barr. Theo Nkire, and the President of the Ukwa-la-Ngwa Aba Union and Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity and the development of Abia State.
Part of the communiqué read: “We hereby endorse and adopt His Excellency, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, as the sole candidate of Ukwa-la-Ngwa Aba Union for the 2027 Abia State governorship election.
“We pledge to mobilise our people across all nine LGAs of Ukwa-la-Ngwa land to ensure a resounding victory for our son, the Governor of Abia State, and the Labour Party in 2027.”
The group urged sons and daughters of Ukwa-la-Ngwa extraction, both at home and in the diaspora, not to contest against the governor in the forthcoming election.
It further appealed to aspirants from the zone in other political parties to withdraw from the race in line with what it described as a collective decision to present a consensus candidate.
According to the communiqué, the decision was aimed at consolidating political unity within the zone and strengthening its chances of retaining the governorship position.
The union also called on its members to rally behind the governor and sustain what it described as ongoing improvements in governance across the state.
It urged stakeholders to intensify mobilisation efforts at ward, local government and state levels to secure victory for the governor in 2027.
“We call on all sons and daughters of Ukwa-la-Ngwa to close ranks and work for the continuity of good governance currently being experienced under Governor Alex Otti,” the group added.
The union said it remains committed to supporting the administration of Governor Otti in its development agenda for Abia State.
