CHRSJ writes IGP, PSC, demands action against officers involved in ‘illegal’ arrests at Idirioko, Ogun State

Rights group, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), has asked the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Abubakar Mohammed Adamu and the Police Service Commission (PSC) to take disciplinary action against the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Idiroko Police Station it identified as Sunday Opebiyi and another officer it identified as Sergeant Christian Egbokan over what it called “illegal arrest and extortion of law abiding citizens of the area.”
The group which made the appeal in statement by its Executive Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, said it has also reported the aforementioned officers to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), alleging that they have been a torn in the flesh of the peace loving people of the area by always arresting them on trump-up allegations.
Sulaiman said the officers “illegally arrested Mr. Musibau Olamide Salami, a DJ and three of his colleagues that were anchoring a birthday programme on July 7th, 2019 at BEEBEE Hotel, Ihunbo in Ipokia local government area of Ogun State and have continued to extort money from their parents.
The other arrested individuals according to the group were Adediran Shereef, Folorunsho Daniel and Shanu Daniel.
