NDDC unveils fire truck to boost emergency response in Rivers

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has unveiled a fire truck for its Department of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) as part of efforts to strengthen workplace safety and improve emergency response capacity within the Commission and surrounding communities.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Managing Director of the Commission, Samuel Ogbuku, said safety remained a collective responsibility and stressed the need to equip the HSE Department with modern firefighting tools.
Ogbuku, who was represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Kelechi Nwelue, said the fire truck was acquired to enhance the Commission’s capacity to tackle fire outbreaks within its premises and neighbouring communities.
“This fire truck was bought to ensure the safety of the Commission and its environs, to help to fight fire in the case of any outbreak in and within the neighbourhood. We will assist in fighting fire as much as possible, just like Shell and Julius Berger,” he stated.
He further disclosed that the Commission planned to provide fire trucks to all NDDC state offices across the Niger Delta region to strengthen emergency response and mitigate safety hazards.
In her remarks, the Director of Health, Safety and Environment, Chinyere Umeh, commended the NDDC management for prioritising staff welfare and operational safety.
According to her, the new equipment would significantly improve the department’s ability to respond swiftly to emergencies, enforce safety standards and promote environmental protection within the Commission.
Umeh also reaffirmed the department’s commitment to promoting safety awareness and ensuring compliance with established safety regulations across the organisation.
The handover forms part of the Commission’s broader strategy to improve safety infrastructure and emergency preparedness in its offices throughout the Niger Delta region.
